This graphic displays data for the number of Iraqi refugees within Iraq and around the world. Displaying the numbers in two ways--geographically and in bar chart form--provides a stronger context to the information and the reader is thus able to gain a deeper understanding of the material. The two visual elements work together and become more powerful than if either one were presented alone.

Another challenge for this project was how to present the scale of the maps. I thought a map of the entire world on one panel would waste space as most countries I needed to highlight were concentrated in a few areas and it would also prevent me from clearly showing a close-up area of the Iraq provinces. The final four-panel design provides an elegant solution that eliminates wasted space, provides a simple navigation and ultimately highlights the relevant information in a clear and consistent manner.
